The following recipe will make 12 x 30ml Beard Oils. Each 30ml container will last between 4 weeks to 6 weeks depending on how regularly and how much oil you use. This means you can make a whole years worth of beard oil using the following recipe. Half it or double it depending on your needs.
All of the above carrier oils have their own unique properties which aid in overall beard health. We recommend utilizing as many of them as possible to ensure your beard gets the right nutrients.
If you want to add some scent to your oil, we recommend using the below essential oils which range from Woody, citrus, sweet to uplifting in smell.
- and many more
Tip 1: It's good practice to use amber or matte black glass containers to ensure UV light does not get into your beard oils when they're being stored. Keep them in the a well ventilated area, they will last at least a year and will only need shaking when they're ready to be used. You can find 30/50 or 100ml Amber dropper glasses on Ebay or Amazon in batches of 5 or 10 for next to nothing. They can also be re-used meaning you keep waste to a minimum.
Tip 2: Some essential oils are more potent than others both in smell and on the skin, ensure you test with different drops of essential oil to find the right balance. We suggest never using more than 1% essential oil in your mixtures to stay on the safe side. Read guidance on the essential oils too.
Tip 3: When buying the carrier oils, do your research and make sure to buy from reputable sellers that sell the finest organic oil. You may pay a premium compared to cheap sellers but it's worth it in the long run, your beard will thank you.
How And When To Use Beard Oil
Now that you've made all this awesome beard oil, the next question is how and when ? It should be used daily as part of your beard care routine. For most people they'll wash their face and beard first thing in the morning, this is the perfect time to drop a few bits of oil into your hands, rub them together and apply to the beard in an upwards and downwards motion, making sure to cover everywhere. A little really does go a long way.
There's really no rule against using beard oil at any time. If you're outside and it's particular windy and cold, then we recommend using a few drops. Before bed is also another time to hydrate it with a beard oil, although we recommend a beard butter before bed. But that's a discussion for another day.
